Vision
The Department of Rehabilitative Services (DRS) and the Department
for Blind and Vision Impaired (DBVI) joined together to replace five
agency systems with an Integrated Case Management (ICM) system.
Goals for the project include:

Integrate field and
center services into a common system

Implement an accessible
and secure client service delivery system

Move away from “this is
how we’ve always done it” and streamline the business process
-
Automate DBVI financial
and center service delivery processes
-
Complete the project with
user confidence in the system and the data that comes out of the
system
Approach
The VA Disability Services agencies will implement the
AWARE Case Management System in 2008. Field
and center staff in each agency will share a common system from intake
to service delivery to discharge/closure. The ICM project also includes
a Client Inquiry system that allows staff to see a client’s history of
services in both agency’s AWARE system as
well as external systems.
Unique aspects of the project include the synchronization of shared
information between the agencies and the ability to link to external
systems including Woodrow Wilson Rehabilitation Center’s document
management system.
Results
In addition to the business benefits described above,
benefits of the project will include:

programs into a shared system

Migration to a modern,
supported technical platform

Staying current with
technology, Federal requirements and new features through the
Upgrade, Maintenance and Support program

Leverage efficiencies
that result from both agencies and their centers having a common
system and technical infrastructure
Today
In October 2007, the Department of Rehabilitative
Services’ Field Services will begin their Pilot of
AWARE and the Client Inquiry System.
